Jim Corbett National Park
A magical destination for tourism and wildlife lover from all over the world, Corbett national park, a project tiger reserve is one the India’s oldest and one of the most famous national park. Corbett national park spans over 520 square kilometers with sub Himalayan geographical and ecological character. The park consist of 73% forest and 10% grassland and contains around 488 species of flora and variety of fauna.
Corbett national park is located in Nainital district of Uttarakhand state and named after the famous hunter and naturalist “Jim Corbett”. It was established to save Royal Bengal tigers in 1936 as Hailey National Park and was the first one to come under tiger reserve in India in 1973. This park consists of 110 species of Trees, 580 species of Birds, 50 species of mammals and 25 species of reptiles. The most famous one in Royal Bengal tigers which attracts the visitors from all over the world. Corbett national park is a heaven for wildlife lovers and bird watchers, though there is something for every tourist visiting this national park. The park is divided into various zones from where the visitor can take wildlife safari inside the national park - Bijrani , Jhirna, Dhela, Dhikala, Durgadevi and Sitabani buffer zone.
Tourist Attractions in Corbett National Park
Jeep / Canter Safari – best way to explore the national park and discover the famous wildlife, jeep and canter safari are organized in the morning and afternoon everyday though all zones. Prior reservation is compulsory for these safari as limited seats are available on each safari. Canter Safari are organized only through Dhikala zone. Naturalist is accompanied during each safari.
Corbett waterfall – Located on Ramnagar Nainital highway, this is a small 20mtrs fall surrounded from dense forest. It is developed as a picnic spot an is around 1.5 kms from the main gate.
Corbett Museum – A heritage bunglow of famous naturalist and hunter Jim Corbett, now converted into museum displays personal belongings of Mr Jim Corbett like paintings, sketches, articles and manuscripts.
Garjiya Devi Temple – in the midst of river Kosi on a huge rock lies the temple of Goddess Garjiya Devi. Temple is located 14 kms from Ramnagar on Ranikhet road and visited by thousands of devotees. An Annual fair is held on Karthik Poornima every year.
How to Reach Corbett National Park
Ramnagar is the headquater of corbett national park which connects it through the major cities via road and rail.
By Road – Ramnagar is located at a distance of 260 kms from National capital Delhi, regular buses are available to Ramnagar from Delhi, Moradabad, Nainital. Tourist taxis are also the best way to reach Corbett.
By Rail – Indian railway operates daily trains to Ramnagar from Delhi Moradabad and Bareily. Corbett Link Express, Ranikhet Express and Kathgodam express are regular and direct trains from Delhi.
By Air – Pantnagar is the nearest airport (82 Kms) which has only 1 direct flight operated by Air India from Delhi and 1 flight from Dehradun.
